Commits Breakdown 5/22/11

Brady Hoke and company have made it a huge priority to get back into midwest recruiting and owning the states of Michigan and Ohio in recruiting.  So far there are seven verbal commitments from players in Michigan and 5 from Ohio.  Hoke has been able to build strong relationships with the coaches in those states that may have been broken while Rich Rodriguez was here.  The lack of scholarships that Ohio State has for the class of 2012 has also benefited Michigan because Ohio State is being very picky and selective on who they offer.  I strongly belief that Greg Mattison has had the biggest impression on the defensive commits and that’s why we have had the success we are seeing right now.  Plenty of people are complaining now that we are focusing too much on the midwest recruiting but that’s not necessarily true, I expect to see 5-6 commits outside of the midwest before this class is over.
